The new season is just days away and BVB have been hit with the news Kuba will be out for at least 2 weeks with a thigh muscle strain suffered in the 4-0 Europa league win on Thursday.

this will mean he is certain to miss the games against Leverkusen and Stuttgart as well as the away Europa league tie in Azerbaijan against FC Qarabag, but should be available for the 3rd Bundesliga game against Wolfsburg.

and Lewandowski and Mario Goetze are set to fight it out to replace Kuba on the right.

Adios .. Auf Wiedersehen , Farewell – Valdez exits BVB

After 4+ years , 113 appearances and 16 goals for BVB ,  Paraguayan international footballer Nelson Valdez has finally bid farewell to the club he has known and loved for the past seasons and signed a multi year deal with Hercules Alicante of Spain, the deal in terms of transfer fee to BVB is rumoured to be around 4 million euros.

A striker while not the most prolific was best known for his work ethic and effort amongst fans and for it was given much understanding and support. but given the arrival of long term target of BVB Robert Lewandowski .

Valdez had seen his future and place in the team at risk and with him not being guaranteed first team football , it was decided by all parties that should a fair offer come along it would be accepted and should he agree terms , he would be allowed to leave.

PD wish Nelson all the best for the future

Transfer me this … Transfer me that … BVB players .. in and out?

Coming up to the time of year when all fans dream of what could be ... but usually end up with what was and could have been ..

who will come in ... more than just prospective talent for BVB II ?
who will leave ....?

again so far the obvious rumour is Robert Lewandowski to come .. and this seems to have progress this time around to more then gossip with Zorc actually admitting interest and confirming BVB want him ... with a deal possibly set for the summer,  with the only stumbling block being possible interest from the money pit that is the EPL,  and the mega buck wage packet they can throw at a player,  will Lewandowski choose style over overindulgent substance and choose to play for BVB

Only time will tell well more specifically hte end of the summer will and how much BVB are willing to splash out on the Pole with the fee rumoured to be around five million euros for the striker.

and to make way for the player there is the sounds from the Nelson Valdez camp as the player recently said in a n interview for Bild he is considering looking at his options in the summer as he wants more playing time than he currently has at the moment , will Valdez call time on a BVB career that has for a striker been somewhat fruitless in goals since his move from Bremen in 2006 ,and while the players overall contribution and effort  has been welcomed by the club maybe a fresh start will do the players strike rate the world of good , who knows.

another player constantly linked with a move away from the club is central defender Neven Subotic who has attracted the gossip columns of many a tabloid newspaper linking him with a big money move to .. you guessed it the EPL with transfer fees of 20 million euros being thrown around, but to the players credit he has consistenly said he wants to stay with BVB and while that may be his intention , the lure of a big money offer may be when and if the time comes could prove too much for the club to resist then its a case of the player himself deciding where his future lies.

With european football next year a distinct possibility BVB will be have to strengthen the squad in depth and quality but how much on how many depends on how well BVB can and are willing to invest as their budget is not expected to be that big .

so really much may depend on Zorc and whether he can unearth a few gems for not a large amount or if he can snap up some good quality free agents who will add to the team not jsut in numbers , the players are out there.. he will just have to look where, or maybe he should just visit many a BVB forum and let them do the scouting for him .. but unlike years past in the summer transfer market.. this one is expected to be a somewhat busier one than normal.

Road trip as BVB travel to Berlin

15,000!! yes you read it right up to 15,000 BVB fans are expected to fill the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Saturday when BVB travel to face a Hertha Berlin side deep in a relegation battle and a battle made more the harder with a large section of the home support banned due to crowd troubles.

The large BVB support is bound to upset the balance in the stadium and the away fans will look to be as vocal  in support as they can to push on their own team hopefully towards a victory.

Both sides go into this game on the back of big wins against top 10 opposition BVB last week thumped Leverkusen 3-0 and Hertha thumped last years champions Wolfsburg 5-1, but Hertha will be looking for only their 2nd win at home this season while BVB will be looking to do the double over Hertha having won the reverse fixture 2-0 eariler in the season.

Current form would suggest a BVB win with goals from Barrios who indecently was one of the 2 scorers form the last encounter of these 2 teams Sahin being the other , but against a team fighting for their Bundesliga status ,  BVB will know it is their game to win and not the oppositions to lose,.

The staffing situation for BVB shows them with a near full strength squad with the only missing players being Hummels, Tinga, LeTallec and Valdez all to short to mid term injuries

Hertha in turn too will have a near full strength squad with their only missing player being BVB loanee Kringe.

The starting elevens for both sides are expected to be as follows :

Hertha Berlin: Drobny - Piszczek, Frederick, Hubnik, Kobiashvili - Lustenberger - Kacar, Cicero - Raffael - Ramos, Gekas.

Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Owomoyela, Subotic, Santana, Schmelzer - Kehl, Sahin - Cuba, Zidan, Großkreutz - Barrios.

Kick off is 15:30 CET and 14:30 GMT

Barrios and Kiessling go head to head as BVB take on Leverkusen

A battle of 2 of the Bundesliga's  prolific goalscorers is  up on us as it sees Lucas Barrios(13 goals) and BVB take on Stefan Kiessling(16 goals) and Bayer Leverkusen at the Signal Iduna Park.

With only 8 points and a champions league place the difference between the 2 teams (Leverkusen being the higher in 3rd BVB in 4th) both teams have a lot to play for Leverkusen trying to keep up their earlier title challenging form and catch up ground on Bayern and Schalke , and BVB will be looking to cement the 4th position and Europa League spot.

BVB go into the game with quite a few players out through suspension and various injuries , they will be without Sahin(yellow card suspension),Dede (thigh problem)Valdez (thigh problem), Hummels (broken jaw,  Götze (hip injury), Tinga (just back in Training,  Le Tallec (adductor problem).

but on top of that there is a slight doubt over the participation of Sven Bender who is still suffering slight irritation in the knee problem that kept him out of last weeks game.

the only injury problem Leverkusen have is that of Rolfes other than that they will be at full strength.

who will come out on top ... which team will take home the bragging rights when the final whistle blows.. will BVB have dented Leverkusen's title hopes or will the visitors have cemented that spot in the top 3.

Kick off : Saturday 18:30 CET / 17:30 GMT

The starting line ups  should be as follows

Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Owomoyela, Subotic, Santana, Schmelzer - Kehl, Bender (Hajnal) - Cuba, Zidan, Großkreutz - Barrios.

Bayer Leverkusen: Adler - Schwaab, Frederick, Hyypiä, Castro - Vidal, Reinartz - Barnetta, Kroos - Kiessling, Derdiyok.

Another local derby beckons – BVB against Bochum

"ill be back" - (Sebastian Kehl 2009) maybe he didn't actually say it in those terms but it could have been implied.. any way fact is and probably a good needed boost for BVB , the club and its fans is the return of Sebastian Kehl. who after a long term injury stepped foot back onto the pitch for the first team in the ill fated game against rivals Schalke.

he replaced his heir apparent Sven Bender in the 86th min in what was a maybe more symbolic substitution than any other in the game , in that it represented the return of someone who embodied the fighting spirit of a player who played in the BVB shirt for pride and honour of the club... its captain.

While he didn't have a huge impact on the ending result it remarked a return to first team football for Kehl who had been out since at least last July with injury, and his return and presence couldn't have come at a better time for the club who after their bright start to the season have been recently struggling for form and suffering injuries.

More recently they have lost Mats Hummels and Sven Bender to short term injuries that will keep them out for a good few games.

Against Gladbach last weekend he made his first start and helped inspire the team to a 3-0 win, you could say he is a good omen , the return of Kehl to spark a return of form? who knows but what is known is that his leadership will prove a valuable tool for team morale and strength for the rest of the season.

Most pending is the game against yet another local rival Bochum this weekend in which fans will be looking to Kehl and the rest of the team to try and restore some local pride with a solid performance and another win..

While Bochum are below BVB in the table and having lost the last 2 meetings between the 2 clubs it would look like they would be cannon fodder but they will not prove to be an easy ride for they could have some inside knowledge that maybe will not win them the game but will give them an idea of what to expect from some players on the current BVB roster.

That knowledge is in the form of ex player and now current coach of Bochum - Heiko Herrlich who won both domestic and European honours with BVB and coached them at u19 level.. he will know more than most just how much pride and desire will go into winning this game and will know how hard a task his current club face and thus instill this knowledge into his players.

It will to also see another old BVB player line up for Bochum in Diego Klimowicz who is expected to start only on the bench , other than that Bochum are set to start with a near full strength Squad.

BVB on the other hand will be missing Dede ,Hummels, Bender, Goetze and Oztekin to various injuries all of which are not expected to be too long term , but still out for the long term are Tinga and Feulner , and while Valdez is listed as doubtful he is expected to make the bench.

The starting 11 is expected to be as follows :
Weidenfeller - Owomoyela, Subotic, Santana, Schmelzer - Kehl, Sahin - Kuba, Zidan, Großkreutz , Barrios.

Expected Subs : Ziegler - Koch, Hünemeier, Hajnal, Valdez, Rangelov

Kick off @ Saturday, 13. March 2010, 15.30 (CET) 14:30 (GMT) @ (rewirpowerSTADION)

Hummels out for at least 4 weeks

Aside the loss in yesterdays derby loss to Gelsenkirchen BVB will now have to cope with the loss of Mats Hummels who suffered a broken jaw in yesterdays game after an accidental collision with BVB keeper Roman Weidenfeller and is set to undergo surgery today in Bochum.

BVB Team doctor Markus Braun expects Hummels to be out for at least 4 weeks , this will come as a huge blow to BVB as Hummels has been in great form for them this season and has been solid in defence with CB partner Neven Subotic.
