Hummels out for at least 4 weeks
Aside the loss in yesterdays derby loss to Gelsenkirchen BVB will now have to cope with the loss of Mats Hummels who suffered a broken jaw in yesterdays game after an accidental collision with BVB keeper Roman Weidenfeller and is set to undergo surgery today in Bochum.
BVB Team doctor Markus Braun expects Hummels to be out for at least 4 weeks , this will come as a huge blow to BVB as Hummels has been in great form for them this season and has been solid in defence with CB partner Neven Subotic.
BVB hoping to end an 18 year losing streak in Munich
BVB go into Saturdays game with Bayern Munich looking to end a 2 game losing streak which saw losses against a resurgent Stuttgart and a brave Eintracht Frankfurt team , but more significantly they will be hoping they can put an end to an 18 year hoodoo away in Munich which has not seen them win there since 1991.
they will be up against a Bayern side who are in strong form thanks to the recent exploits of The Flying Dutchman Robben and the least unlikely of goalscoring sources defender van Buyten , but a flu virus has hit the Bayern dressing room and the possible loss of some of the in form stars inc. v Buyten , Butt and Olic will be something BVB will look to take advantage of and grab what on paper would be a surprise away win from home.
What could be in BVB's favour is the possible return of Weidenfeller, Kuba and Sven Bender for the match all 3 of which recently this week returned to full training and all will surely be a massive boost to the team.
One player BVB will be without is Nelson Valdez who picked up his 5th yellow in the last game and will be out through suspension.
Who will prove to be the catalyst for an away win that BVB need ... will it be Hummels who can return to haunt his ex club , will it be Barrios looking to add to his ever growing goal tally or will Dortmunder Jung Grosskreutz be the one to be the savior ..
15:30 CET , 14:30 GMT Kick Off at the Allianz Arena , Saturday 13th February ... let battle commence
Borussia Dortmund against Eintracht Frankfurt: Preview
Borussia Dortmund look to splash doubts of a lack of good form and are setting their sights on Frankfurt. Dortmund fell last weekend 1-4 against a strong Suttgart side away from home. The Westfalen return home and will have the support of 70,000 or more fans rooting for them for the clash against Frankfurt on Sunday (17.30).
Dortmund will have Mohamad Zidan back in the squad and it appears that Sven Bender is fit. Bender will be a game time decision, but in training today he had no pain from an earlier complication from the knee. Dortmund will be missing star midfielder Kuba who is suffering from back problems. Felipe Santana is still making a recovery from a bone bruise but the prognosis is looking better.
Frankfurt have a strew of their own players missing but much of their starting eleven has not been badly effected. Big Star missing from Frankfurt is the Greek forward Amanatidis. Dortmund can cushion their lead on Frankfurt in a European place with a win. Frankfurt is eight points behind Dortmund and a win would see Dortmund move eleven points clear of Frankfurt. Dortmund currently sit fourth in the table on 36 points and are looking ambitiously to play European football this year.

All even between BVB and Eintracht Frankfurt
The wait for win number 2 of 2009/10 for BVB will have to wait until the next game as this away trip to Frankfurt ended in what could be described as a frustrating 1-1 draw for both sides
the first half saw Frankfurt have a good chance of taking the lead with a powerful Amanatidis strike denied by an equally great save from Weidenfeller who was not to be beaten this time.
the next best chance of the game fell to BVB's Mohamed Zidan who intercepted a back pass from Vasoski only to have his shot frustratingly saved by Frankfurt's Nikolov.
Amanatidis again proved to be a thorn in BVB's side as in the 34th min he finally put the ball in the back of the net but this goal was subsequently ruled offside by the linesman, a decision later to be seen as incorrect.
that was the real story of the first half ... frustration on both sides and justly it ended 0-0
for BVB it saw also chances for Sahin and Valdez missed and the creative effort of Kuba thwarted by a stubborn defence.
this was a game which saw Mohamed Zidan replace Lucas Barrios in the BVB starting 11, and also marked the first start of the season for the egyptian striker , who's previous roles have seen him coming of the bench and scoring goals late in the game.
and this time that continued as Zidan capitalized to fire BVB into the lead on 62 mins. with a goal created by a mistake from Amanatidis who just a mere 4 mins saw himself go from villain to hero as he made up for the mistake by firing home the equalizer for the home side.
BVB will consider themselves satisfied to have taken home a point but frustrated to have not taken home 3
with the next bundesliga game coming against Bayern Munich it seems that the frustrations in front of goal which has seen only 3 goals in 3 games so far this season will have to be resolved during the international break in order to try and get that elusive win number 2 .
Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Owomoyela, Subotic, Santana, Dede - Hummels - Kuba, Sahin - Hajnal - Valdez, Zidan.
Substitutions: 62. Liberopoulos für Caio, 64. Bajramovic for Teber - 72. Großkreutz for Kuba, 78. Barrios for Valdez, 82. Feulner for Hajnal.
Goals: 0:1 Zidan (61., Hajnal), 1:1 Amanatidis (68.).
Dortmund seals a comfortable 2-0 win in Paderborn
My thoughts on season 2008/09
Wow, what a ride? A very interesting season full of highs and lows along the way. A massive yellow and black roller coaster!!!
So now the dissapointment of Black Saturday has passed somewhat I thought I'd put my thoughts of the season into words.
Firstly, If someone had offered me sixth place at the start of the season and would have bitten their hand off. To have come from such a pitiful season last time round to be challenging for Europe has been an excellent turn around and Jürgen Klopp and his staff deserves huge credit for that. It is also strange that I am feeling so gutted because of the last weekend of the season. It feels like it has been a waste, but coming from nowhere to where we finished bodes well for next season.
There have been some great performances on the pitch too. I was particularly impressed with our three young centre backs, Hummels, Subotic and Santana. Clean sheets and unbeaten runs have been a real bonus given the inexperience at the back. Weide ahs been great all season, he has been one of the most consistent performers and hopefully he might get some international recognition next season. Nelson Valdez had a great end to the season, he's obviously a confidence player and when he is on top of his game he is a great asset to the squad. There have been some good work from midfield too this year and the settled look that we had in the final run in has helped a lot. Sahin has had a good season and will hopefully 'train on' next year.
We've had a great season and it shows the quality of the Bundesliga that the number of points we got would normally have given us European football. In half the years we would have been in a champions league position!!! Unbeaten at home all season, only five defeats on the road. So next season we really have something to look forward to. Hopefully we we be contenders all season long and who knows maybe even challenging for the title.
Favourite moment of the season: Being on the Südtribüne for the 6-0 against Bielefeld.
Player of the Season: Roman Weidenfeller
Young Player of the Season: Neven Subotic
Worst moment of the season: 4-1 Hoffenheim matchday 5
2008/09 Thanks for the memories BVB
